Cancer of the oesophagus and stomach
Symptoms : hoarseness of the voice or persistent cough; pain on swallowing; uneasiness after eating; slight but persistent indigestion; nausea and distaste of certain foods, loss of weight and anemia; poor appetite; vomiting and pain in the stomach; bleeding in the stomach, seeing in vomit or in black stools.
Associated factors : strong family history, heavy smoking and drinking. Its cause is not known, although aspects of diet, such as eating large amounts of smocked, salted and pickled foods have been suspected.
